Linn Basik Lv V Tonearm Manual Arts

Hi, Can somebody show me how to set up the adjustment of the Basik Plus tone arm correctly? As I'm the first time user of Linn 12, I just don't know how. There are counterweight, tracking weight dial, lift lever, anti-skating gauge, etc, which I'm not familiar with. I look forward to your step-by-step easy explanation for a novice like me. Thanks for your help in advance.

OK, to balance the tonearm you need to place your LP12 in a stable and level surface, preferably were it is going to stay. The tonearm must have a cartridge and the stylus protector must be removed during the balancing process.
You need to set the anti-skaiting dial to zero (0). Carefully rotate the counterweight until the tonearm floats parallel to the LP12 platter. That's you zero point. The tracking weight dial and the counterweight rotate independently one of the other so proceed to carefully grab the counterweight so as it does not rotate and with the other hand rotate the tracking weight dial until the zero (0) is aligned with the white line in the back of the tonearm.
Once you have completed this it is just a matter of rotating the counterweight (this will cause the tracking weight dial to also rotate) so that the tracking weight dial weight you desire is aligned with the white line in the back of the tonearm. To finish just rotate the anti-skate dial to the same value as your selected tracking weight and you're good to go. The lift lever lets you slowly lower or lift the tonearm from the record.
When not in use, place the stylus protector in your cartridge!!! You should try different values within that range and listen which one sounds best.
Look for in which weight it is easier to follow individual instruments and what the musician is playing. There is no magical number so trust your ears. Once you decide which setting you like best, do the same exercise with the anti-skating dial. They are totally independent mechanisms. Maybe it's just a little bit stuck. Just carefully rotate the ant-skating dial back and forth thur its full range a few times. If you feel somethig is stuck while rotating it stop inmediately! I continue to make trials and errors at the moment. One more question: Actually I tried to do so as instructed, but when I tried to set the anti-skate to 1.8, it rolled back to 1.5.
I don't know why. Does it have anything to do with the tracking weight dial which is set at 1.8? Vicdiaz has given a very good explanation of the setup and eyefi is correct in regards to tracking force setup. I wanted to add a couple of things. You definitely don't need to bother with the low end of the stated range on the AT cartridge as it is hopelessly optimistic - as are the specs on many cartridges. Generally I have found most ATs to sound best in the range of 1.6 to 1.7g. You might want to start with 1.5g and go up in.05g increments until it starts sounding worse, then back down a step and try finer increments to zero in on best performance.
