Plant scada people wanted to see some data from the HVAC system. So they told us that they use devicenet and recommended StoneL devices. There are only a few points of data hence we chose to use hardwired points into a devicenet slave i/o module rather a gateway/protocol converter. I have no idea what brand PLC scada is using and for whatever political reasons scada people are refusing to commission these stoneL devices. They tell us we are suppose to set the given baudrate and node address. It does not make sense to me but where we stand presently. Does it really matter what brand PLC is talking on devicenet when all I want to do is set the basic communication parameters on a few slave device?
I was hoping there is a simple/common generic setup software for slave devicenet devices, am I wrong? If you had a controller that does DeviceNet messaging, you could just attach the StoneL devices to the controller's network and send configuration messages addressed to the 'DeviceNet Object', which contains the baud rate, autobaud option, and node number settings. The cost would be only your time in learning how to program DNet messages on your controller.
